Brand Spotlight: Anita

Last month, we placed the spotlight on Goddess, our number one bestselling brand. Today, we’re here to talk about Anita, the brand Dawn calls our “largest, best-selling maternity lingerie line.”

Anita has been in business for over 130 years although, of course, the brand has changed over time. When the company first opened in Dresden, Germany in 1886 they were known for selling elastic braces and orthopedic body belts. Plus-size women (and men) were in vogue at the time, so the strong elastic material was an immediate success. They began selling corsets in 1900 and by 1930 were a major brand when it came to corsets and braces. It wasn’t until 1960, though, that Dr. Christine Weber-Unger found the potential for a niche: bras created specifically for pregnant women and nursing mothers, as well as women who had undergone breast surgery. Anita opened a line of nursing bras and over the next few decades, the brand spread through Europe and finally to the United States and Canada.

Today, Anita still focuses primarily on their line of nursing bras, with natural shaping and soft, gentle underwire to offer support, but not discomfort. All nursing bras offer adjustable straps and a discreet front flap for ease of nursing. They’ve branched out, however, to provide sports bras, swimwear, and a luxury Rosa Faia line, as well.
